A 6-magnitude strong earthquake occurred in eastern Afghanistan, killing more than 800 people, according to the country's Ministry of Public Health. Approximately 2,800 people have been injured.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located in Kunar province, which is the worst affected area. Rescue workers have not yet been able to reach some villages due to disrupted mobile communications and severely damaged infrastructure.

Officials have indicated that the death toll may rise. According to Reuters, dozens of people may have been killed in each village. Earlier, it was reported that there were more than 600 casualties.
