In the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan, the statue of the great poet Alisher Navoi, who lived during the Timurid era, has been completely destroyed. This was reported by "Aamu".

Reportedly, this action by the "Taliban" has provoked the anger of a number of intellectuals and politicians. They state that the "Taliban" not only disregards the spiritual values of other nations and the historical pride of humanity, but is also engaged in erasing and belittling the country's cultural and historical identity in practice.

The "Taliban" has not yet provided any comment regarding this matter.

In a joint statement prepared by 20 civil and social organizations, the destruction of Alisher Navoi's statue was condemned as "an attack on the collective memory of the people and the identity of Afghanistan."

These organizations called on the international community, UNESCO, cultural institutions of international organizations, and human rights defenders to take immediate action to protect the historical and cultural heritage of the peoples of Afghanistan.

It is worth noting that the destruction of the statue has also caused a reaction on social media. Abdulhanon Kilich Arslon, a professor of Uzbek literature at Kabul University, called this act "unjust" on Facebook and demanded clarification on the incident.

For reference, Alisher Navoi's statue was erected approximately 17 years ago by the city administration of Mazar-i-Sharif to commemorate his memory.
