The foreign ministers of the CIS member states gathered in Moscow on April 18 to discuss the acute situation in the Persian Gulf region. The meeting paid special attention to the impact of the Middle East situation on Eurasian security.
At the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Sergey Lavrov emphasized that the escalation in the Persian Gulf area has reached an unprecedented level. According to him, the situation resulting from the actions of the US and Israel against Iran is engulfing the entire Middle East.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the ministers adopted a special statement on this issue. It noted the need to review the security of energy carriers, food and fertilizer supplies, as well as the overall security architecture in Eurasia.
The event was attended by Bakhtiyor Saidov on behalf of Uzbekistan. Representatives from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, as well as CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev, also participated.
