According to reports, chlorine gas leaked into the air due to a malfunction at a water treatment facility located on the road connecting the cities of Najaf and Karbala in Iraq. The country's Ministry of Health reported the poisoning cases on August 10.

As a result of the chlorine gas leak in the city of Karbala, 621 people experienced breathing difficulties. All of them have now received emergency medical assistance and have been discharged home.
