The number of Russians seeking political asylum in Finland has increased, but the majority of applications are being rejected — in the last five years, 963 people were rejected, while 698 received a positive response.
According to human rights activists, rejections are primarily based on grounds such as "insufficient political activity" or "lack of proven persecution threat."
A DW correspondent interviewed two Russian political activists. They believe that if they return to Russia, they will be imprisoned for political reasons. However, Finland's migration service did not find these claims sufficient.
