At a time when Russia is facing a shortage of highly qualified specialists in industrial sectors, the country is planning to attract 1 million labor migrants from India. This was reported by zamon.uz here.

“According to information from my Indian colleagues, it is planned to bring 1 million specialists from India to Russia, particularly to the Sverdlovsk region, by the end of the year. A new Consulate General of India is opening in Yekaterinburg, which will deal specifically with these issues,” – explained Besedin.

According to him, at this time, the need for labor in Russia is extremely high. This is due to several factors, including the involvement of some citizens in military activities in Ukraine and the lack of interest among the younger generation in working at industrial enterprises. Besedin links this situation to ideological mistakes made in the country in the past.

In addition to India, cooperation is planned to be established with Sri Lanka and North Korea. However, as Besedin noted, there are complications associated with the practice of attracting labor from these countries.

The new specialists are primarily going to be attracted for the metallurgical and machine-building industries.

In this regard, Yaroslav Nilov, the chairman of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy, and Affairs of Veterans, commented on this initiative, emphasizing the possibility to provide employment for the underprivileged population through foreign labor. However, he pointed out that the current quotas for labor migration are less than the planned 1 million.

According to him, the demand for external resources in the Russian labor market remains high.
