The Deputy Mayor of Beruniy District in the Republic of Karakalpakstan was detained while receiving a bribe of 12,000 US dollars. He had reached an agreement with the head of a private enterprise in Takhiatosh district, specialized in processing licorice roots, in exchange for allocating land. This was reported by Darakchi.uz publication, based on information from the State Security Service.
According to the information, the Deputy Mayor promised to allocate 150 hectares of land from Beruniy district. He was caught with physical evidence during the rapid operation.
Bribery crimes have also been observed in Namangan. The head of a horticulture farming business in Kosonsoy district demanded 240,000 dollars in exchange for officially transferring 24 hectares of land to another person through an “acquainted official.” He was detained after receiving 50,000 dollars upfront.
Interestingly, the chief specialist of the project office in Kosonsoy district under the Agency for Agricultural Development of the Ministry of Agriculture, who had “collaborated” with him, was also caught with a bribe of 10,000 dollars.
Bribery did not stop in Andijan either. The head of the Andijan regional department of the Inspection for Control over the Agro-Industrial Complex under the Cabinet of Ministers was detained while taking 1,000 dollars for providing a lenient conclusion on an illegally constructed facility on 6 sotiks (units of land area).
Currently, criminal cases have been initiated on all incidents, and investigative actions are being taken.
