The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, received Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the acting Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of Afghanistan, within the framework of the Economic Cooperation Organization summit in the city of Khankendi. This was reported by the Presidential press service.
The urgent aspects of expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of trade-economy, transport-logistics, and energy were discussed.
The consistent increase in the volume of trade turnover and the number of joint ventures was noted with particular satisfaction.
Practical contacts have been activated. In May of this year, Uzbekistan’s trade houses were opened in the cities of Kabul and Mazar-i-Sharif. In June, a privileged trade agreement was signed.
The leader of Uzbekistan emphasized the importance of promoting cooperation projects in the development of border trade and relevant infrastructure, in the sectors of extraction, textile and pharmaceutical industries, construction materials, processing of agricultural products, and other areas.
The necessity to accelerate the strategic regional project - the construction of the Trans-Afghan railway was noted.
