The infamous Ecuadorian “drug lord”, leader of the “Los Choneros” criminal group, Jose Masias Vilamar (alias – “Fito”) was accidentally caught by the police. The reason for this was… his three-year-old daughter. According to the local “El Mercurio” publication, the girl accidentally revealed her father’s hiding place: the talk is about an underground bunker.

Special military and police units immediately took action, conducting a large operation in the coastal city of Manta. As a result, the criminal leader, who had been sought for 17 months, was captured. Now, the 45-year-old Fito could be extradited to the USA – he is charged with drug and weapons-related crimes.

For your information, Fito had been serving a 34-year sentence in a high-security prison since 2011. However, he managed to escape in January 2024. This incident caused unrest in Ecuador, leading to the declaration of a state of emergency and the government deploying the army against the gangs.
