The International Monetary Fund had recommended Uzbekistan to reform its current pension system in the medium term. In particular, the IMF had proposed to gradually increase the pension age as advised.
The Pension Fund has officially commented on this matter.
"As of today, no final decision has been made regarding raising the retirement age in Uzbekistan.
Proposals given by international experts regarding pension reform are currently being analyzed for their suitability to Uzbekistan's conditions, their impact on the standard of living of the population, and their economic consequences.
Any changes to be made to the pension system, including issues related to retirement age, will certainly be implemented step by step after wide public discussion, taking into account the opinion and interests of the people,"— states the explanation from the Pension Fund.
