Telegram founder Pavel Durov told American journalist Tucker Carlson in his second interview that he is currently in France, unable to leave the country without permission and unable to meet his children and mother.
According to Durov, initially, the French government complained that Telegram was not responding to inquiries, but it was later revealed that there were no official requests.
As of today, he is being accused as a “sectoral partner” for criminals using Telegram and not taking sufficient measures against them.
Durov considers this accusation to be excessively broad. According to him, Telegram has 1 billion users worldwide and the company allocates significant funds for legal matters.
Durov also reported that after being detained, he was held in a cell without windows and a bed for 4 days. He emphasized that he used the phone only for testing Telegram and it did not even have a SIM card.
Durov stated he does not carry a phone with him all the time, firstly because governments can install surveillance programs like Pegasus, and secondly because it's distracting.
