The acting president of Syria, Ahmad al-Shara, will officially visit the US in September this year. This was reported by “Syria TV”.
According to the TV channel, during the visit, he is planned to deliver a speech at the UN General Assembly. This will be Syria's first presidential-level appearance at the UN in the last 60 years.
It is worth noting, following the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime, a transitional government was established in Syria on December 9, 2024. On January 29, 2025, the country's highest legislative body, the People's Council, was disbanded, and elections for the Transitional Legislative Council were announced. The first transitional government concluded its activities on March 29, 2025, and was replaced by a new government. A system was introduced whereby the executive power is directly controlled by the president.
On February 2, he made his first foreign visit to Saudi Arabia. During the visit, he met with the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Muhammad bin Salman Al Saud, in Riyadh.
