The body of a 39-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan was retrieved from under the ruins of a hotel in Russia's Kursk region. This was reported on May 13 by the acting governor of Kursk, Alexander Hinshtein he announced.

According to the report, the hotel in the city of Rylsk was destroyed in an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The body of a 39-year-old male citizen of Uzbekistan was found under the debris of the hotel. I express my sincere condolences to his relatives, said Hinshtein.

He mentioned that the condition of two men who were injured during the attack is still severe. The injured are being treated in the Kursk regional hospital. 

According to the Russian side, on the evening of May 11, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched a missile attack on the city of Rylsk in the Kursk region. It was reported that three people were injured then. As a result of the attack, a hotel, two private houses, a garage, and five cars were seriously damaged.

On August 6, 2024, the Ukrainian army began a military operation in Kursk region. By August 12, 28 residential areas were reported to have come under the control of Ukrainian forces by the then acting governor of the region, Alexey Smirnov. In January, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the Ukrainian side had seized 1268 square kilometers of the region's territory (the total area of the Kursk region is 29.9 thousand square kilometers). By mid-January, according to the Russian authorities, 801 square kilometers (63.2 percent) had been retaken. In February, 64 percent of Kursk region was recovered under control.

According to Zelensky, the main goal of the operation in Kursk is to destroy Russia's military potential as much as possible, to intensify counterattacks, and to create a buffer zone inside Russian territory. In April, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the complete liberation of the Kursk region. However, the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that battles in the region were continuing.
