“The Taliban’s Ministry of Propagating Virtue and Preventing Vice starts monitoring citizens’ social media pages.” This was reported by Etilaatroz here.
Ministry spokesman Saif al-Islam Haibar stated in an announcement via state television that the use of social media for “illegal and immoral purposes” would lead to legal prosecution. According to him, no person or organization is allowed to use social media for “improper and unethical purposes.”
Haibar emphasized that social networks should serve to “distribute credible news, promote religious and contemporary knowledge, strengthen the unity of the Islamic ummah, and develop mutual respect.” He indicated the necessity of ensuring that networks do not allow for “superstitions, insults, moral and intellectual failings.”
“According to the Taliban official, the ministry will “use its legal powers and capabilities to monitor and, when necessary, prosecute all networks, pages, and addresses that attempt to destroy the nation's beliefs, thoughts, and social morale.”
