President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on May 5 in the Syrdarya region to organize agricultural activities based on new approaches. This was reported by the Presidential Press Service.
Although the Syrdarya region is small in terms of territory, it actually has great potential in agriculture. The main fields are located along rivers and canals, the population is hardworking, and all infrastructure is convenient.
The meeting analyzed targeted studies in the districts, and new proposals and plans were considered.
Proposals were made to cultivate crops based on the soil and climate characteristics of the lands, and to increase the yield of grain, vegetables, and potatoes in desert areas.
Irrigation networks are to be repaired, with plans to bring 20,000 hectares of land back into use within two years.
There are also many opportunities for food projects. In particular, launching 3 large livestock complexes on 9,000 hectares in the Oqoltin, Gulistan, and Boyovut districts, and planting cotton based on new technology on 7,000 hectares are planned.
The region has 10,000 hectares of orchards and vineyards. More than half of them are not in demand for fruits and vegetables due to the old variety and agrotechnology. Therefore, it is planned to renew 2,000 hectares of gardens and grow the most marketable fruits abroad, offering the rest to those interested.
Moreover, this year, the “Right Bank” inter-district canal’s 607 kilometers reconstruction and transition to digital management project will be completed. As a result, 35-40 percent of water will be saved, improving water supply on 27,000 hectares.
The head of our state approved these proposals, giving instructions to ensure productivity and employment in agriculture, fully meet the internal demand for food, and increase processing and export capacities.
