It is noted that this initiative is being carried out to help address the power outages and emerging economic crisis resulting from U.S. restrictions on oil imports to the island.
The aid was loaded at a port in the Yucatan state of southeastern Mexico under the slogan "Let's Give Life to Cuba."
This initiative is also a direct response to the measures adopted during the period of heightened tension between the U.S. and Havana under Donald Trump. After the U.S. government restricted oil imports, energy and economic difficulties on the island have deepened.
Mexico, which was a country supplying crucial fuel to Cuba before the U.S. shipment embargo, has also sent humanitarian aid.
In a statement, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum noted that Cuba has suffered for years under an economic blockade and has been deprived of the opportunity for free economic development. President Sheinbaum emphasized that Cuba's future and governance policies should belong to its local people.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz‑Canel announced that aid boxes from Europe arrived on Friday and wrote on social media that the people appreciate the warm assistance.
