Dmitry Peskov noted that Macron is ready to talk with Putin. In this regard, he emphasized that the Russian president has always been open to direct dialogue. According to Peskov, if there is mutual political will, such contacts can only be assessed positively.

A few hours later, the French president's administration welcomed Moscow's readiness for dialogue and announced that decisions on next steps could be made in the coming days. At the same time, the Élysée Palace noted that any negotiations with Russia must be conducted on a basis of full transparency for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European allies.

Recall that on December 19, Macron said that a conversation with Putin could be beneficial for European security. In July, the two leaders held their first telephone conversation in three years, discussing the situation in Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East.
