On December 18, the review panel of the Tashkent City Court satisfied the prosecutor's protest and overturned the decision of the appellate instance that had released Akmal Shukurov. As a result, the first instance court's verdict was changed and Shukurov was taken back into custody.
According to the court ruling, the punishments assigned to him under Article 104 (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm) and Article 277 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code were upheld. By partially summing the sentences, Shukurov was deprived of liberty for a term of 6 years. Taking into account the days already spent in custody, he is to serve 5 years, 3 months, and 12 days.
For reference, Akmal Shukurov was prosecuted this year in March for beating a man and knocking him unconscious during a fight in front of a nightclub. The appellate court had released him on December 9, but the prosecutor's office filed a protest against this decision.
