The U.S. Joint Operational Group Southern Spear announced that on December 4, a strike was carried out on a vessel identified for drug trafficking. According to Southern Command, after intelligence confirmed the vessel was moving along a route notorious for drug trafficking, Defense Secretary Pete Hagerty ordered the operation.

It is reported that as a result of the attack, "four narco-terrorists" on board the vessel were eliminated.

This is the latest such operation by the U.S. in the region in recent months. In October, President Donald Trump announced the destruction of a narco-submarine near Venezuela, and not long after, it was reported that a large surface vessel bound for the U.S. was also targeted.

Since then, a series of strikes have been carried out in the Caribbean Sea, and in November it was reported that an American aviation strike group with 4,000 military personnel entered the region.
