According to the BBC, the incident occurred on November 3 during restoration work. The tower collapsed again as rescuers were trying to extract workers trapped under the rubble. Doctors could not save the life of Stroitci, who was found 12 hours later.

Rome's mayor Roberto Gualtieri and the Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli visited the scene. The capital's prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the incident.

This tower was initially 50 meters high, but over the years, due to earthquakes and reconstructions, it had been reduced to 29 meters.
