On October 21, OpenAI officially introduced a new AI-powered browser — ChatGPT Atlas. It allows users to analyze web content, work with documents and texts, manage emails, compare products, and even make online purchases.
The browser interface features a ChatGPT assistant located in a dedicated side panel, which instantly provides contextual suggestions or analysis when a user highlights text.
One of the most interesting features of Atlas is "Agent Mode." It can perform various actions on behalf of the user: for example, reserving a table at a restaurant, filling out online forms, making purchases, and more. Currently, this feature has been launched as a trial for a limited number of premium users.
The browser also places a strong emphasis on privacy: users can delete their search history and conversations with ChatGPT at any time or temporarily disable memory. According to OpenAI, user data is not used to retrain the models.
ChatGPT Atlas is currently only available on macOS, but versions for Windows, iOS, and Android are expected to be released soon. The browser also offers the ability to easily import favorites, history, and passwords from Chrome or Safari.
With its own browser, OpenAI is entering the competition against rivals such as Google (Gemini), Microsoft (Edge + Copilot), and Perplexity (Comet AI).
According to experts, Atlas stands out for its ability to deeply understand natural language and its advantage in performing interactive actions.
