The World Boxing Association (WBA) has officially announced the terms requiring American champion Rolando Romero to defend his title against Uzbekistan's Shakhram Giyasov.
According to the organization's statement on October 14, Romero was required to have a mandatory fight within 120 days of winning the title — a deadline that expired on September 1.
Romero and Giyasov's promoters were given a 30-day period to negotiate — from October 13 to November 13.
If the parties cannot reach an agreement within this time, the right to organize the fight will be determined through an open auction.
Romero last fought in the professional ring on March 19, has achieved 17 wins (13 by knockout), and has been defeated twice.
Shakhram Giyasov, meanwhile, has won all of his 17 fights (10 by knockout) and remains undefeated.
He last fought on April 13, 2025, against Argentina's Franco Ocampo, winning by knockout in the 4th round.
