French President Emmanuel Macron will appoint a new prime minister in the coming days. The incumbent government was ousted by a vote of no confidence in the National Assembly on September 8.

Prime Minister François Bayrou will submit his resignation to Macron tomorrow. He had proposed strict austerity measures, but they were not supported by the parliament.

Bayrou was in office for only nine months and became the fifth prime minister to resign since 2022. This is increasing political pressure on Macron.
