The city of Uman in Ukraine's Cherkasy Oblast is an important pilgrimage center for Hasidim. They come to visit the grave of Rabbi Nachman, the founder of the Hasidic movement that emerged in Ukraine in the 18th century.

Rosh Hashanah — the New Year according to the Jewish calendar — begins this year on September 22. Last year, despite the war, more than 30,000 pilgrims came to the city.

According to Jerusalem Post, this year Ukraine may ban the entry of foreign citizens.

The reason cited is the lack of security due to the war with Russia. It is also said that Kyiv is displeased that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not make a congratulatory phone call on Ukraine's Independence Day.

However, according to Axios journalist Barak Ravid, a spokesperson for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that there is currently no change in Ukraine's policy.
