According to German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, Ukraine must retain the ability to defend itself even after a peace agreement is signed.
Therefore, security guarantees should become a key issue during the negotiations in Washington on August 18.
Baerbock emphasized the need to increase pressure on Russia and enhance support for Ukraine. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, in turn, stated that Europe remains firmly united in supporting Ukraine.
At the same time, Trump also recalled that after the Alaska summit, the U.S. clearly and explicitly articulated its security guarantees.
