The virtual embassy of the USA in Iran has called American citizens to leave the country immediately. The relevant notification has been placed on the diplomatic mission's website.
"US citizens are strongly advised not to visit Iran. Those who are already in the country should leave immediately. If they are unable to leave, they should be prepared to stay hidden for a long time," the message says.
The message reminds that the USA does not maintain diplomatic and consular relations with Iran, with Switzerland protecting Washington's interests.
US citizens are advised to consider leaving Iran through borders with Azerbaijan, Armenia, or Turkey.
"Although Azerbaijan's land borders are closed, Americans will be able to cross at the Astara control checkpoint with a special permit on June 15," the message states.
Before heading to the border, it is necessary to obtain the relevant permission from Azerbaijani officials. This should be arranged through the US Embassy in Baku.
