The prominent Saudi journalist Turki al-Jasser was murdered. This was reported by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) here.
The government of Saudi Arabia found the journalist guilty of treason, collaborating with foreign entities, financing terrorism, and posing a threat to national security and unity.
Al-Jasser was suspected of accusing members of the royal family of corruption through social media platform X and was arrested in 2018.
According to the CPJ, Al-Jasser wrote on "sensitive topics" such as women’s rights, the Arab Spring, and corruption, and collaborated with the now-shuttered Al-Taqrir newspaper.
After his arrest, Turki al-Jasser was not allowed to communicate with his family or have access to a lawyer’s services. He was subjected to physical and psychological violence, the report states.
