Germany's conservative leader, the CDU party leader in the Bundestag, Friedrich Merz, called for cooperation with former US President Donald Trump during a meeting at the White House to end the war in Ukraine.
“America is in a very powerful position to stop this war,” — Merz said, calling Trump a “key political figure” who could pressure Russia.
According to Merz, he and Trump are united in their assessment of the war and are looking for ways to end it as soon as possible.
“We must act together to end this tragedy as soon as possible,” — he says.
In turn, Trump did not deny the possibility of introducing new sanctions against Russia.
“If this war does not end, we will not reach any agreement,” — he says.
Trump emphasized that if the war continues, he will adopt a strict stance towards both sides.
