Tourists planning to cross the forest to reach the Krkonoše mountains in the north-east of the Czech Republic stumbled upon an aluminum box sticking out from between stone walls. According to CNN's report, it contained 10 gold bracelets, 17 cigarette cases, a locket, a comb, and 598 coins.
The tourists handed over the find to the East Czech Museum. Archeologists have studied the treasure and decided to investigate the area where it was found.
Scientists have not yet determined who hid these objects and why. However, it is noted that the treasure is not over 100 years old, as one of the coins is dated 1921.
Archaeologists assume that the gold items might have been left in the mountainous area before the start of World War II.
The value of the found items is currently unknown. The weight of the coins alone is 3.7 kilograms, and their value is estimated at 360,000 dollars. Moreover, all coins are either Balkan or French, with no local currency among them. Two of the cigarette cases are tightly closed, indicating that there might be something else inside.
Museum officials have pointed out that this treasure is quite unusual. Researchers need to conduct additional studies to determine the composition of all metal items and assess their value.
