The voting for the election of the Chancellor of Germany took place in the Bundestag here.

Although at least 316 votes were required, 325 out of 630 deputies voted for Merz's candidacy. Now, Merz will receive the official appointment document from German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Upon receiving this document, he will officially have the status of Chancellor. Thereafter, he will immediately return to the Bundestag to take the oath.

Merz will be the tenth Chancellor in the history of Germany. He had previously promised to continue delivering military aid to Ukraine. He also supported sending Taurus cruise missiles to Kyiv. However, he stated that this could only be implemented if an agreement with European partners is reached.
