The Investigative Committee of Russia announced that a criminal case has been opened against the writer Dmitry Bykov. According to the official statement, he is accused of spreading "false information" about the Russian army and failing to fulfill legal obligations as a person who received the status of a "foreign agent."

Investigators are currently considering the issue of putting Bykov on the wanted list.

According to the state agency TASS, the main reason for the accusations was the publication by Bykov of a video about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces against civilians in Ukraine.

For information, Dmitry Bykov has been living and working in the USA since 2022. In the same year, after the invasion of Ukraine, Article 207.3 was added to the Russian Criminal Code. This article provides for punishment of up to 15 years in prison for disseminating "false information" about the Russian army.

In practice, this article is more often used against journalists, lawyers, politicians, and activists who openly spoke about war crimes in the war in Ukraine.
