In the city of Islamshahr, located in the Tehran province of Iran, a man publicly stabbed his 18-year-old daughter, Fatima Soltani, to death after finding out she was working in a beauty salon. This was reported by the Iranian opposition publication “IranWire” here.
According to the publication's sources, Soltani began working at the beauty salon in secret because she feared her father's negative reaction. It is said that the man had previously been regularly violent towards his wife and daughter.
He found out the location of the beauty salon through a phone number left for booking appointments on his daughter's Instagram page. On the morning of April 18th of this year, he went to the salon. Upon seeing her father, Soltani managed to call her mother.
Women's rights activist Pardis Rabi shared the testimonies of witnesses to the event on her social media pages. They reported that the man entered the salon and stabbed his daughter several times in front of customers and employees, then attempted to decapitate her, but fled when people around started screaming. Following this, he called his wife and said, “I leave you with this sorrow.”
According to another opposition publication - HRANA, the man has been arrested and a criminal case has been initiated against him.
Based on information referenced by “IranWire” from the “Etemad” newspaper, from March to September 2023 alone, 78 women in Iran were killed by relatives or family members. According to the “Shargh” newspaper, from 2021 to 2023, at least 165 women were killed by men within their own families.
