Starting from April 1, 2026, certain payments in Uzbekistan will be made exclusively in cashless form. That is, the procedure for settlements via bank cards or electronic payment systems will be implemented.
This is stipulated in the President's decree adopted on December 10, titled "On additional measures to popularize cashless settlements and reduce the share of the shadow economy."
According to the decree, the following payments will be transferred to cashless form:
— payments for services provided by state bodies;
— settlements for the use of electricity, natural gas, and drinking water;
— payments for alcohol and tobacco products;
— purchase of oil and gas products through filling stations, as well as electric vehicle charging services;
— goods and services valued over 25 million soums;
— transactions related to the sale and purchase of real estate objects, as well as M, N, O, and G category vehicles manufactured less than 10 years ago, and special-purpose vehicles.
According to the document, it is planned to achieve two important goals in the country by 2030. One of them is to reduce the share of the unobserved economy relative to GDP by 1.3 times. The second consists of increasing the share of cashless payments made by the population in the trade and service sectors to 75 percent.
