December was particularly active: passenger traffic increased by 17.5 million people in one month, and total air traffic increased by more than 11 percent on an annual basis.
Over the course of the year, more than 101 million passengers were carried on domestic routes, while approximately 145 million people were served on international flights. Cargo volume also increased: more than 5 million tons of cargo were transported through Turkish airports.
The main cargo traditionally landed in Istanbul. The city's new airport served approximately 84.5 million passengers, while Sabiha Gökçen Airport exceeded the 48 million passenger mark for the first time in its history.
Resort areas also showed high indicators. The airports of tourist cities received approximately 63 million passengers. Antalya once again led in this direction - more than 39 million people were served during the year.
