US President Donald Trump has signed a memorandum envisaging the termination of the country's membership in 66 international organizations. The White House announced this on January 7 on its page on the X social network.
It is noted that 31 of these organizations operate under the auspices of the UN, and another 35 are structures not affiliated with the UN. According to the White House statement, these organizations "do not align with US interests."
The list also includes structures such as the Ukrainian Science and Technology Center, the Venice Commission, the Office of the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative on Violence against Children, and the UN Democracy Fund.
In a statement, Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that the Trump administration assessed these organizations as "wasteful, ineffective, and harmful," as well as "posing a threat to US sovereignty and prosperity."
