According to information from the company "Cloudflare", internet traffic in Iran decreased by approximately one third on January 3 compared to normal. On the morning of January 4, the indicator dropped by another roughly 15 percent. Users on social networks are reporting widespread disruptions.
The Iranian government has previously imposed partial internet restrictions during protests in 2009, 2019, and 2022, as well as during military events in June 2025. In some cases, only specific websites functioned.
According to reports, the protests that began on December 28 have taken place in 27 out of 31 provinces, in at least 88 cities. Human rights defenders have stated that 35 people were killed during the protests.
