In an interview given to The Atlantic magazine, Donald Trump emphasized the necessity for the U.S. to have control over Greenland for defense purposes. According to him, the island holds strategic importance and is considered significant from a global security perspective.
During the interview, Trump did not rule out the possibility of a power shift in Venezuela and noted that the U.S. must maintain its influence in the Western Hemisphere. He also commented on statements by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, saying that others should assess how the Greenland issue is related to military actions.
Trump had previously stated several times that Greenland is "necessary from a national security perspective" for the U.S. These statements were sharply criticized by Danish and Greenlandic officials.
