On December 29, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the results of his recent talks in Florida with U.S. President Donald Trump. According to him, Washington has supported strong security guarantees for Ukraine, and these issues are expected to be put to a vote in the U.S. Congress.
Zelenskyy emphasized that the parties also discussed measures for Ukraine's economic recovery after the war. In particular, plans are being made to create special conditions for U.S. business in Ukraine and to develop a free trade agreement between the two states.
Furthermore, the presidents have reached an agreement on 15-year security guarantees, with the possibility of extension also being considered. Zelenskyy proposed extending this term to 30–50 years.
Subsequent steps were also outlined during the talks. A meeting with the participation of U.S. and European national security advisors is planned in the coming days. Zelenskyy stated that a referendum in Ukraine is necessary to confirm the peace plan, but this requires 60 days of peace. He noted that Russia is not currently agreeable to this proposal.
