According to the director of the Center for Pharmaceutical Product Safety, Alisher Temirov, the implementation of the electronic prescription system will help prevent the sale of counterfeit medicines and also allow for effective monitoring of the adverse effects of medicines.

According to him, since 2022, a special digital marking system for medicines has been implemented in Uzbekistan. All medicines imported into the country are assigned a unique digital identification code during customs clearance, and each package of locally produced medicines also receives such a code.

Through these codes, the entire movement path of medicines—from the manufacturer to the wholesale link, and from there to pharmacies—is monitored online by the Tax Committee. As a result, it is possible to see exactly where a particular medicine is located, which pharmacy or manufacturer's warehouse it is in.

The implementation of the electronic prescription system will also allow tracking which patient was given this medicine. If a medicine shows adverse effects, it will be possible to investigate and determine the causes.

At the same time, electronic prescriptions are not issued for counterfeit medicines. This limits the circulation of such medicines, eliminates demand for them, and prevents their sale through the market.
