According to a study published in Nature Aging, Israeli scientists have identified a specific immune cell called CD4-Eomes that helps eliminate senescent — that is, aged and harmfully altered — cells in the human body. Zamon.uz reported on this.
Senescent cells are considered a major factor in tissue weakening, inflammation, and the development of many diseases. Experiments showed that when CD4-Eomes cells were reduced, aged cells multiplied rapidly and lifespan decreased.
The scientists confirmed that this type of cell also exists in humans. Notably, CD4-Eomes cells were found more frequently in "super-aged" people over 100 years old.
Experts emphasize that this discovery could pave the way for new anti-aging therapies. If it becomes possible to artificially increase or activate these cells, it could be possible to slow down aging processes and extend a healthy lifespan.
