The Bozek family from Hamburg, Germany, ended their trip to Turkey in tragedy. The mother, Çiğdem Bozek, and her children, aged 6 and 3, who came to Istanbul, died after being poisoned from consuming mussels, soup, sausage, and chicken meat. The head of the family, Sarvat Bozek, is being treated in a hospital in serious condition.
According to reports, the family stayed at the "Harbour Suites Old City" hotel in the Fatih district of Istanbul on November 9th. After eating street food in the Ortaköy neighborhood on November 11th, they were hospitalized, discharged home after a while, but their condition worsened again. The children passed away on November 12th, and the mother died on November 14th.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched a criminal investigation into the incident. A total of 11 people were detained, including the owners of the mussel shop, restaurant, Turkish delight shop, hotel staff, and a disinfector. The restaurant and hotel were sealed, and footage from security cameras and samples taken from the food were sent for examination.
It was also reported that two other tourists in the area where the family stayed were hospitalized with signs of poisoning. The police fully evacuated the hotel and relocated the guests to other places.
