The former head coach of the Uzbek national team, Timur Kapadze, may become the new head coach of the Indonesian national team. In a conversation with Indonesian sports analyst Effendi Gazali, he expressed his readiness to lead the Indonesian national team.
Kapadze said that if an official offer comes from the Indonesian Football Federation, he is ready to accept it.
"I am ready to coach the Indonesian national team, insha'Allah. I am currently free, that's why I am waiting for an offer. I like Indonesia, and the fans too. Thank you for your support," he said.
He also answered a question about offers from abroad in an interview for the UzA news agency. He refuted the circulating rumors about connections with Kazakhstan, while also confirming that there is interest in his candidacy from other countries:
"Of course, I am waiting for new invitations. Of course, more from abroad. Work is currently underway. There are quite a few options. Making the right decision is not easy.
Currently, there is no offer from Kazakhstan. I don't know where this information came from. Perhaps there were some discussions. As for Indonesia - this process is being considered. There are also options from Turkey and China... work is underway. To what extent all of these will materialize or not - time will tell. It's difficult to say anything specific right now. We will see, wherever fate takes us, we will go and work. Time will tell this. Or I might stay and work here [in Uzbekistan]. So it's difficult to say anything in advance right now, because the process is ongoing."
In January 2025, Timur Kapadze, who started working as the interim head coach of the Uzbek national team replacing Srečko Katanec, led the team to its first World Cup.
However, in October 2025, the UFA announced the Italian Fabio Cannavaro as the new head coach of the national team. This decision was explained by the intention "to attract a specialist who participated [in the World Cup] precisely as a player, in order to ensure worthy participation in the tournament and bring in the World Cup atmosphere." At the presentation ceremony for the new head coach, UFA Vice-President Ravshan Ermakov announced that Kapadze would continue to work in Cannavaro's coaching staff, but during that same event, this specialist indicated that he did not intend to stay in the staff for long. On November 9, it was announced that he had left the coaching staff.
