The internet has been completely shut down in Afghanistan under the pretext of enforcing "moral rules." This was reported by the NetBlocks monitoring service.

Internet networks in Afghanistan have been cut off step by step. Telephone communication has also sharply deteriorated in Kabul and other provinces.

According to BBC sources, fiber-optic internet in Kabul completely went down at 5:00 PM local time. AFP reported that it lost contact with its Kabul bureau, even via mobile connection.

Currently, mobile internet, satellite television, and even airport operations have ceased across the country.

The Taliban are presenting these restrictions as "moral reforms," but this practice is being heavily criticized by local entrepreneurs and citizens.

They emphasize that the absence of the internet will be a serious blow to the economy.

The Taliban government has promised to create "alternative channels" instead of the internet, but has not provided any specific information on this matter.

It is known that the Taliban, who seized power in 2021, have in recent years banned education for girls over 12, prohibited reading books written by women, and have been restricting the dissemination of information about human rights.
