Enterococcus bacteria were found in the drinking water of Passau, Germany, and its surrounding areas. Local residents were advised to boil the water before consumption.

According to Der Spiegel, the water system is currently being disinfected with chlorine.

It is currently unknown how long the restrictions will last. Enterococci can cause inflammation of the heart's inner lining, urinary tract infections, and other illnesses.
