The level of undernourishment in Central Asia has decreased by 5 times. This was reported by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.
It is known that the highest rates of hunger reduction were observed until 2019, but this progress stalled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020-2021, the number of people suffering from hunger reached 2.5 million.
Globally, the level of undernourishment has dropped from 12% in 2005 to 8.2% by 2023.
In Central Asia, the average daily cost for healthy nutrition (based on purchasing power parity) in 2024 was $3.78 per person. The cost, which was $3.10 in 2019, rose to $3.81 in 2023. However, in 2024, a decrease was recorded for the first time—$3.78.
Despite this, healthy nutrition remains unaffordable for 14% of the region's population (approximately 11.5 million people).
