The Russian government officially decided to close 20 border control checkpoints that had been operating under an agreement with Ukraine dated February 8, 1995. This was reported by the TASS agency.

According to the new decision, starting from August 1, 2025, 13 automobile and 7 railway checkpoints will be permanently closed.

The agency notes that among the checkpoints being closed are those located in the Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions, which were unilaterally "annexed" by Russia in 2022.

Moscow now considers these territories as part of its internal territory and emphasizes that formal border control through them is unnecessary.
