The first ambassador of Uzbekistan presented his credentials to the President of Sri Lanka.

In the meeting that took place after the official ceremony, the President of Sri Lanka described the appointment of Uzbekistan's first ambassador to Colombo as a historic event.

During the conversation that took place after the solemn ceremony, the President of Sri Lanka noted the appointment of Uzbekistan's first ambassador to Colombo as a historic event and emphasized that this step would take the broad and stable cooperation between the two countries to a new level.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake also stressed that Sri Lanka considers Uzbekistan a reliable and promising partner in Central Asia and expressed readiness to establish strategic relations based on mutual trust, pragmatism, and respect.

During the meeting, issues such as expanding political dialogue, strengthening the legal framework, developing cooperation in trade, investments, tourism, education, logistics, and agro-technologies, as well as exchanging experiences in economic reforms, digitalization, and entrepreneurship development were discussed.

The leader of Sri Lanka particularly emphasized the importance of establishing direct business relations between the two countries, organizing business forums, exhibitions, and business visits. In this regard, he proposed a number of initiatives, including the establishment of an Intergovernmental Joint Commission.

Furthermore, it was highlighted that there is great potential for developing trade and economic relations between Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka and significantly increasing mutual trade volume. This would help expand the geography of foreign trade for both countries and enrich the export-import nomenclature with new and competitive products.

At the end of the meeting, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake of Sri Lanka sent warm greetings and best wishes to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan, expressing hope for fruitful cooperation that would contribute to peace and sustainable development.
