In Mexico, unidentified armed persons stole a Grupo Minero Bacis company truck carrying 33 tonnes of gold and silver concentrate worth millions of dollars.

The incident occurred on a highway moving from Durango towards the Manzanillo port. The attackers blocked the truck's path with two white vehicles, holding the driver and guards at gunpoint for 1.5 hours before releasing them unharmed and taking off with the truck and the trailer loaded with the precious metal concentrate. The truck was later found, but the trailer is still missing.

The loaded concentrate, unlike ordinary ore, is considered a semi-finished product that contains high amounts of precious metals. It is sent to smelting plants to extract pure gold or silver.

According to El Financiero, the owner of the company, José Jaime Gutiérrez Nunies — one of Mexico's prestigious industrialists, leads not only Grupo Minero Bacis but also serves on the board of directors of another 12 major companies.

Official data shows that in Mexico, a robbery is recorded every 50 minutes. In the first two months of 2025, the number of thefts increased by 30% compared to the previous year. Nonetheless, the theft of 33 tonnes of concentrate is recorded as an unprecedented event in this field.
