Today, June 9th, a peaceful protest against deportations in the city of San Francisco escalated into violence by evening.
According to information published on the official social media page of the city, the protest participants committed crimes such as "attacks, severe vandalism, and property damage".
For this reason, law enforcement declared the gathering illegal and began dispersing the protesters.
According to police information, during the events, two police officers were injured, one of whom was hospitalized, but their life is not in danger. There were also minors among those arrested.
These clashes began following immigration raids conducted around Los Angeles in the United States. Over the course of a week, 118 individuals suspected of violating immigration laws were arrested by federal agencies.
Regarding the situation, former US President Donald Trump called the protests in California an "invasion and occupation" in his statement on social media and ordered the dispatch of the National Guard to the state.
California Governor Gavin Newsom, on the other hand, called this decision "illegal", strongly opposed it, and announced plans to sue the federal government.
These events are occurring against the backdrop of a sharp escalation in immigration policy in the US and exacerbating the conflict between federal and state authority.
