According to NASA representatives, these funds will accelerate the process of studying the Moon and Mars and serve to maintain the priority of science and technology through the planned human flight.

Of the total allocated funds, $1 billion will be directed to programs related to Mars exploration.

The Trump-Vance administration presented the main directions of the presidential budget for the 2026 fiscal year. The budget is aimed at accelerating the exploration of the Moon and Mars by man and provides for a portfolio of financially responsible expeditions.

"This proposal includes investments that will simultaneously prioritize important scientific and technological research as the study of the Moon and Mars continues," said Janet Petro, interim head of NASA. "I highly appreciate the President's ongoing support for NASA's tasks and look forward to working closely with the administration and Congress."

Among the main directions outlined in the budget are the return to the Moon before China and the sending of an American to Mars. Projects that are financially unstable, including Mars Sample Return, will be liquidated.

The transition to private flights to the International Space Station (ISS) will also continue - by 2030, the number of crews on the ISS will be reduced, and research will be focused on the study of the Moon and Mars.
